Sailing Out To See

I feel like there's nothing for me here
I don't know what ground to walk on
I think there's a storm being woven
But I find that I don't mind the thunder
I might sit with the rain a while
Just to give it some company
It must get awfully lonely
I hope that it doesn't mind me

Is there a dream waiting for me
Floating out there on its own
Hoping for someone to find it
And hold it so it doesn't drown
I hope it holds on till I reach it
With no way to send word ahead
Maybe it's waiting for somebody else
I hope that it doesn't mind me

I'm sailing out to see
What might be in store for me
Carrying nothing to offer
To bargaining merchants or kings
Maybe all of what I am
Isn't everything that I'll be
Just waiting for the right wave to sweep me
To my destiny

I don't know which wind to follow
I left my map back at home
It wouldn't have helped me anyway
All of the names were wrong
My compass seems to be broken
It just spins around and around
It seems that I'm stuck on the sea for a while
I hope that it doesn't mind me

I think there's a war being forged
Somewhere back on dry land
Each morning I ask how it's going
The birds never seem to know
I think there's a storm being woven
Around me like quilted arms
I find that I don't mind the thunder
I hope that it doesn't mind me

I'm sailing out to see
What might be in store for me
Carrying nothing to offer
To bargaining gypsies or queens
Maybe all of what I am
Isn't everything that I'll be
Just waiting for the change of the breeze
To bring me to my destiny

I never get tired of the sunset
Standing out at the helm
Thinking maybe tomorrow
I might find something
Sometimes I stay there till morning
Laying out under the stars
Smiling and waving to the moon
Hoping it doesn't mind me

I'm sailing out to see
What might be in store for me
Carrying nothing to offer
To the wealthy folks that I meet
Maybe all of what I am
Isn't everything that I'll be
Just waiting for the change in the weather
To bring me to my destiny

Is there a dream waiting for me
Floating out there on its own
Hoping for someone to find it
And hold it so it doesn't drown
