The Earth Waits For Me

When I awoke this morning
I was bleeding from my chest
I knew that by nightfall
They'd be laying me to rest

I wrote one final letter
Even though nobody cared
I read it aloud to an audience
Of specks of dust and air

And now the wind knows my secrets
The soil has heard my desires
The stars have witnessed me crying
But they can't see my tears
From their palace
In the sky

When I left my house just before noon
I knew that I wouldn't be back
So I didn't lock the doors,
I didn't close the window latch

And my footsteps took me to heaven
And my heartbeat took me to hell
And all of the thieves and the kings told me
I had nothing of value to sell

So now the wind knows all my secrets
And the soil has head my desires
Though the stars may have witnessed me crying, I know
They can't see my tears
From their palace in the sky

I talked on the phone to my lover
Said I was going to die
And to me my lover said nothing because
There was nobody there on the line

So now the wind knows all my secrets
And the soil has head my desires
Though the stars may have witnessed me crying, I know
They can't see my tears
From their palace in the sky

And when they bury me deep
To my soul the earth it will speak
For it has heard all that I've said
And it has been waiting for me

The earth it's been waiting for me...
The earth it's been waiting for me...
